The Coastal Plain League announced today that Drake McNamara of Peninsula and Zachary Spivey of Lexington County were named Co-Hitters of the Week, while Braydan Gorham of Wilmington earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the sixth week of CPL action (June 3 - July 9.)
McNamara went on a hot streak heading into the All-Star Break for the Pilots hitting .462 across four games. In total he had two doubles, one triple, two home runs and eight RBIs for 16 total bases and a 1.231 slugging percentage. The utility player also drew one walk for a .500 on-base percentage while scoring four runs.
Also earning Co-Hitter honors was Spivey, a red-shirt junior from Bethune-Cookman, who hit .700 across five games played for the Blowfish. The outfielder notched seven total hits in 10 at-bats, including two doubles, one home run and four RBIs for 12 total bases and a 1.200 slugging percentage.
Meanwhile on the mound, Gorham was dominant in his start versus the Edenton Steamers tossing a nine-inning complete game shutout on July 8. The sophomore from UNC Wilmington allowed only three hits, no walks while striking out 12 for a .103 opponent’s batting average and 0.33 WHIP.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s premier summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 21st season in 2017, the CPL features 15 teams playing in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
