DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Plain League (CPL) pulled back the curtain this morning on its schedule for the 2027 season. Two new markets — Smithfield and Mooresville — will be joining the league’s footprint that spreads from Virginia through the Carolinas and down to Georgia.

“Today’s schedule release brings plenty of excitement for the Coastal Plain League,” said CPL Commissioner Chip Allen. “We’re thrilled to welcome back the Tobs to the CPL as they begin a new chapter in Smithfield, and the addition of Mooresville adds even more energy and momentum to our league. These are tremendous communities with passionate fans, and we’re excited to see the anticipation build over the coming months as we look ahead to another memorable season of Coastal Plain League baseball.”

Opening Day will be Thursday, May 27, with the regular season running through Sunday, August 1 with playoffs following. The league will be split into two divisions again with a focus on divisional play, but also plenty of out-of-division play to keep things interesting. The East will be comprised of Holly Springs, Morehead City, Peninsula, Smithfield, Tri-City, Wilmington, and Zebulon; while the West will feature Asheboro, Boone, Florence, Forest City, Lexington County, Macon, Martinsville, and Mooresville. Overall, each team will play 48 league games.

The CPL All-Star Game will be returning to Holly Springs, NC, next year on July 11. In a more condensed look, it will feature some festivities surrounded around scouting and Prospect Development Prospect (PDP) activities for the players to be graded and seen for the next level. The game itself will be set for that Sunday evening at the stadium at North Main Athletic Complex.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the league will feature its Petitt Cup Playoffs with six teams qualifying (three from each division). In all, there will be three rounds, with the first being a single-elimination round, while the next two rounds are best-of-three series. The top three teams based on highest overall winning percentage in both the East and West divisions will be seeded 1-3. The top seed in both the East and West will have a bye in the first round as well as receive home field advantage in the second round. Seeds 2 and 3 in each division will face one another in a one-game wild card round hosted by the 2-seeds on August 2. The winners of the wild card will then play the top seeds and host game 1 of that series, August 4-6. The two division champions will then advance to the overall championship series (August 8-10) with the lower seed hosting game 1, while games 2 and 3 (if necessary) are hosted by the higher seed.
