HOLLY SPRINGS – Former High Point-Thomasville utility player Ty Adcock made his Major League debut for the Seattle Mariners on June 12. With the Mariners up, 7-1, Adcock (photo courtesy of Ben Van Houten/Seattle Mariners) entered from the pen to start the seventh inning. He would pitch two innings of hitless baseball before being relieved, while Seattle beat Miami, 8-1.
Impressively, Adcock became the second pitcher in Mariners history to toss two scoreless innings without allowing a base runner in his MLB debut, joining Mayckol Guaipe on June 1, 2015. Since his debut, he has made four appearances with Seattle, allowing just two hits, while striking out three in 4 1/3 innings on the bump.
Drafted by the Mariners in the eighth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, the 6-0, 213-pound right-hander began his professional career between Rookie Arizona League and Single-A Modesto in 2022 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in early 2021. He pitched only eight innings that year, striking out 11 while giving up nine hits and walking four. He added another 10 2/3 innings of work that fall with Peoria, finishing 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA.
Adcock started the 2023 season with Advanced-A Everett, where he was 1-0 with a save and 0.00 ERA in six games out of the bullpen. He gave up just one hit and walked two in seven innings while striking out nine. He was then promoted to Double-A Arkansas, and continued his success on the mound. With the Travelers, he had a 2.08 ERA through 13 innings with a pair of saves and 13 punchouts.
While at Elon, he had a short stint with the HiToms in 2017, starting eight games and finishing with a .242 average. Adcock had eight hits, including a double, to go with three runs scored and one RBI. He also walked twice and stole a pair of bags. The following spring, he began seeing action as a pitcher for the Phoenix.
With his debut, Adcock is the CPL’s tenth former player to reach the Majors in 2023, and the league’s 174th Big Leaguer. He’s also the 21st HiToms alum to make his MLB debut.
