2004 MLB Draft


The Coastal Plain League announced Friday that 67 players, both former and players signed for the 2004 season, were drafted in the 2004 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. A list that featured 24 players selected in the first 10 rounds was highlighted by Justin Verlander. Verlander, who played for the Wilson Tobs in 2002, went in the first round, second pick overall by the Detroit Tigers. Also taken in the first round of the draft were Wade Townsend, who played for Thomasville in 2002, Bill Bray, who played for the Asheboro Copperheads in 2002, and Landon Powell, who played for the Wilmington Sharks in 2001.
