2007 MLB Draft

The Coastal Plain League announced Thursday, June 14, 2007, that 84 players, both former and players signed for the 2007 season, were drafted in the 2007 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. A list that featured 17 players selected in the first 10 rounds was highlighted by Will Kline of Mississippi. Kline, who played for the Thomasville HiToms in 2005, went in the second round, 65th pick overall by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The 84 players drafted is the most CPL alumni total drafted since the league started back in 1997. In 2006, 72 CPL alums were selected in the draft, while 67 were taken in the 2005 draft.

All exisiting clubs of the current 15 CPL franchises had at least one alum drafted, as well as a former franchise, the Durham Americans. The Fayetteville SwampDogs and Wilmington Sharks led with nine players drafted, while the Florence RedWolves, Gastonia Grizzlies and Peninsula Pilots each had eight players drafted. The Outer Banks Daredevils were next with seven players drafted, followed by Edenton, Thomasville and Wilson with six. Martinsville, New Bern and Spartanburg each tallied five draftees, while Petersburg notched four. The Asheboro Copperheads followed with three and the Columbia Blowfish featured a pair of drafted alumni, while Durham rounded things out with one alum taken in the draft.
