2010 MLB Draft

The Coastal Plain League announced that 111 players, both former and players signed for the 2010 season, were drafted in the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. A list that featured 15 players selected in the first 10 rounds was highlighted by two alums – Deck McGuire and Asher Wojciechowski – taken on day one. McGurie (Georgia Tech), a former Peninsula Pilots ace, went 11th overall to Toronto, while former Thomasville HiToms pitcher Asher Wojciechowski (The Citadel) was the 41st pick of the Blue Jays.

The Coastal Plain League has now had over 100 players drafted in each of the last three Major League Baseball Drafts. Twenty-nine of the 30 MLB teams selected at least one CPL alum in 2010; and all exisiting clubs had at least one alum drafted. The Thomasville HiToms led with 13 players drafted, while the Peninsula Pilots followed with 12. Next, was the Florence RedWolves with 11; and Forest City Owls (Spartanburg included) and Wilmington Sharks with 10 alums taken each; while the Fayetteville SwampDogs, Gastonia Grizzlies and Petersburg Generals each had nine players drafted. The Outer Banks Daredevils, Martinsville Mustangs, and Wilson Tobs were next with seven each. The Columbia Blowfish and the Morehead City Marlins (New Bern included) had five each. Finally, the Edenton Steamers and Asheboro Copperheads rounded things out with three and two alums taken respectively.
