2015 MLB Draft

The Coastal Plain League announced Thursday that 80 players, both former and current, were selected during the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Breckin Williams, a former 2013 Forest City Owl, was the first CPL alum to have his name called, going in the fourth round 106th overall to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Williams was followed by four more former CPL Players who would go in the forth round: Kyle Martin (Florence ‘12/ HP-Thomasville ‘13/ Columbia ‘14), Austin Allen (Martinsville ‘13), Carl Wise (Forest City ‘13) and Garrett Davila (Gastonia ‘15). A total of 13 CPL players were taken in the first 10 rounds of this year’s draft, giving the CPL over 1,200 alums taken in the draft since its inception in 1997.

All of the CPL’s current 15 clubs, with exception of 2015 expansion franchise the Holly Springs Salamanders, had a player taken in the 2015 draft. Keeping in mind that Forest City shares Spartanburg’s history, Morehead City shares New Bern’s, and Lexington County shares Columbia, the following outlines the distribution of picks throughout the CPL. The High Point-Thomasville HiToms led the way with 10 former and current players selected. Close behind were Wilmington and Lexington County who both had nine players taken, while Edenton, Florence and Morehead City were next with seven players each. Six teams saw six alumni taken off the board: Asheboro, Fayetteville, Forest City, Gastonia, Peninsula and Wilson, with rounding out the field was Martinsville and Petersburg who each saw four former players come off the board.

The complete list of CPL players – both former and players signed for the 2015 season – taken in this year’s draft is below:
