Former Wilmington Shark Alec Bohm, made his Major League debut August 13 for the Philadelphia Phillies. Bohm earned the start at third base and batted sixth finishing the game 1-for-4 with a double in the Phillies 11-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Bohm was drafted third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Phillies out of the Wichita State University. He has been the Phillies top prospect ever since and saw a steady rise through the Minor Leagues, accumulating a .293 batting average with 36 doubles, six triples and 21 home runs in 165 games across single and double A. While he didn’t begin the season on the Phillies’ 40-man roster, Bohm was a member of the team’s 60-man player pool and has been tearing it up at the team’s alternative training site – unofficially batting over .500 in their intrasquad games at the time of his call-up.

He wasted little time making his mark making a great defensive play in the first inning when he snared a liner and doubled off the runner on first, only to follow that at the plate mashing a double down the left-field line for his first major league hit, in his first major league at-bat in the second inning.

The story goes that when Bohm first arrived in Wilmington in 2016 he caught a ride straight to the stadium and without yet having a chance to meet anyone, he stepped on the field and mashed nine home runs in a batting practice session to make a strong impression on all of his new teammates and coaches who looked on. From there he continued to make an impression on the entire league finishing the season as a Hitter of the Year candidate.

In total he had a .330 batting average helping him to a league-leading 51 RBIs to go along with 11 home runs and 12 doubles for a .522 slugging percentage on the year. He was named to the 2016 CPL All-Star Game where he also competed and won the All-Star Home Run Derby. Bohm was also a member of the 2016 All-CPL First Team.

His debut marks the 135th all-time former CPL player to make their major league debut and the fifth of the 2020 MLB season. Bohm’s debut pushes the Shark’s major league alumni total to 12.
