The Coastal Plain League announced today that John Behrends of the Wilmington Sharks was named Hitter of the Week, while Carlos Rey of the Wilson Tobs earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the ninth week of the CPL regular season (July 26 – July 31.) Behrends, a rising junior at Belmont, finished off the season in a big way for the Sharks putting up a .448 average across seven games and 29 at-bats. In total he notched a league-leading 13 hits with three doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs while scoring a league-leading 10 runs of his own. The outfielder also drew an impressive five walks and stole three bases on his way to a .529 on-base percentage to go along with a 1.288 OPS and .759 slugging.

On the mound, Rey was dominant in his two relief appearances for the Tobs on July 25 versus Wilmington and July 29 versus Peninsula. Between the two games, the Nova Southeastern rising sophomore put up five shutout innings, earning the win in both games while striking out 11 batters, allowing no hits and walking only one. His effort helped him end the 2021 season with a 3.00 ERA and 29 strikeouts across 15 innings pitched.
