The Coastal Plain League announced that Morehead City pitcher Jack Decker was honored today as the 2024 CPL Pitcher of the Year presented by Trackman.
“There’s no other team in the league I would rather be on than the Marlins,” said Decker. “This was an unforgettable summer and the lifelong relationships I made are awesome. I’ll definitely miss my boys. With that said, I’m super honored to receive this amazing award, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for everyone on this team in the future!”
A sophomore at Saginaw Valley State, Decker established himself as one of the most reliable arms the Marlins featured during the summer. He made 15 appearances, including four starts, for Morehead City and finished was a league-best 1.15 ERA to go with a 5-1 record plus a save. His five wins matched the most by any pitcher in the CPL this season. Overall, the 6-1, 155-pound lefty threw 39 complete innings, surrendering just six runs – one earned – on 18 hits. He walked 16 and struck out 53, which was just one shy of the highest mark in the league in 2024. Decker also held opposing batters to a low .136 average against him, while sporting an 0.87 WHIP, and K/9 of 12.231.
“I could not be more proud of Jack getting recognized with this honor,” remarked Morehead City head coach Sam Carel. “He is one of the best competitors I’ve been around over the years and, obviously, one of the most talented. Jack was a star all summer long and it was an honor to have a front row seat to watch his special season. This award is well deserved.”
While the league will be looking to unveil its All-CPL Teams for the 2024 season next week, you can count on Decker being listed as a member of the First Team All-CPL pitching staff.
All player awards are selected after gathering feedback from head coaches and league officials, as well as seasonal statistical analysis.
