DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Plain League announced this afternoon that Brett Vondohlen of the Boone Bigfoots has been honored as the 2026 Tucci CPL Hitter of the Year.

“Being named Hitter of the Year is an honor that means a lot to me, especially because of how competitive the Coastal Plain League is,” said Vondohlen. “I’m proud of what I was able to accomplish individually, but I’m even more grateful for the teammates, coaches, and staff who helped me have such a successful summer.”

A redshirt senior at Middle Tennessee State in 2027, Vondohlen had one of the most dominant offensive seasons in CPL history. The Boone Bigfoots third baseman put together a .379/.434/.787 slash line over 43 games, collecting 66 hits, 43 runs, 74 RBIs, 17 doubles and 18 home runs while finishing with a 1.221 OPS. He also drew 14 walks, was hit five times, and stole three bags. His .787 slugging percentage and 74 RBIs each established new CPL single-season records, while his 18 home runs tied the league’s single-season record.

Vondohlen’s greatest distinction, however, was the sheer amount of offense he generated for the Bigfoots throughout the summer. His 74 RBIs were 16 more than the next hitter this season, and 18 more than the previous record holder dating back to 2017. His ability to consistently produce extra-base hits and drive in runs made him one of the most impactful offensive players in the CPL from start to finish. His season is even more impressive when viewed alongside the overall production of his team. Boone scored 353 runs during the season and Vondohlen produced 74 RBIs and scored 43 runs himself, accounting for a tremendous portion of the Bigfoots’ offensive output.

“Brett was consistent with his work throughout the summer and it paid off on the field,” shared Boone head coach Hayden Pewitt. “He showed up every day ready to play and it was a pleasure to watch this summer. He’s a great dude that carries himself like a professional.”

A 2026 West Division All-Star selection, he started the game at third base. He finished 0-for-2 with a walk, a strikeout and one run scored as the West All-Stars went on to win, 9-3.

All-CPL First and Second Teams for the 2026 season will be unveiled next week, and Vondohlen will definitely be atop the First Team selections. All player awards are selected after gathering feedback from head coaches and league officials, as well as seasonal statistical analysis.

“My time in the CPL was an experience I’ll never forget,” stated Vondohlen. “Playing for the Boone Bigfoots allowed me to compete against some of the best college players in the country while becoming a better player and person. I’m extremely grateful for my teammates, coaches, the Bigfoots organization, and the Boone community for making it such a memorable summer.”
