DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Plain League (CPL) announced today that Wilmington outfielder Mackenzie Wainwright and Forest City pitcher Cooper Mitchell were named the TrackMan CPL Hitter and Pitcher of the Week respectively for Week 9 (July 26-August 1) of the 2026 season.

One of the CPL’s best position players over the last three seasons, Wainwright can add Player of the Week honors to his list of achievements. Batting .571 on the week, he featured 12 hits, including a pair of doubles and triples (league-best), as well as a homer. The junior from Tampa scored 11 runs, drove in eight RBIs and drew five walks. Lastly, Wainwright slugged 1.000, while sporting a .679 on-base percentage and league-best 1.679 OPS. Overall this summer, he is slashing .389/.486/.589 and tied for the league high in hits at 68. He has 10 doubles, a league-best five triples, five home runs, and is third in the CPL in both runs scored (43) and RBIs (74). Tack on 27 walks and an OPS of 1.074 for good measure.

Toeing the rubber for the Owls, Mitchell was impressive, pitching six innings of two-hit baseball to finish with a 0.00 ERA and 1-0 record. He struck out eight and walked none, while keeping opposing batters at a lousy .100 average against him. The sophomore at Coker also ended the week with a 12.00 K/9 and a league-best 0.33 WHIP. For the season, Mitchell is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA. The 6-2, 173-pound righty has surrendered five runs on nine hits to go with six walks and 14 punch outs. He also has a WHIP of 1.50 and a K/9 of 12.60, third best on the team.
