The regular season starts on Thursday, May 28 and runs through August 1. The league’s annual All-Star Event will be held July 12-13 with the host city being announced in the coming weeks.
The league will return to a two division structure in 2020 with seven teams in the East and eight in the West. The East will include the league’s newest team the Tri-City Chili Peppers, who will be joined by the Florence RedWolves, Holly Springs Salamanders, Morehead City Marlins, Peninsula Pilots, Wilmington Sharks and Wilson Tobs. In the West it will be the Asheboro Copperheads, Forest City Owls, Gastonia Grizzlies, High Point-Thomasville HiToms, Lexington County Blowfish, Macon Bacon, Martinsville Mustangs and Savannah Bananas.
All together, each team will play a 52-game regular season schedule, with 26 games per club in the first half and another 26 in the second half. Like in years past, the schedule will have a large concentration on divisional games but will also feature an unbalanced look.
The Petitt Cup Playoffs will again consist of three rounds beginning on August 2 and running through August 8. Last year the Morehead City Marlins repeated as champions, defeating the Macon Bacon in three games during the Championship Series.
