DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Plain League (CPL) announced this afternoon the selections for the 2025 All-CPL First and Second Teams.
Each team features 30 players: one per each infield position, six designated hitter/utility players, eight outfielders, and 11 pitchers (a combination of starters and relievers). Teams are selected with input from CPL head coaches.
Highlighting the First Team are CPL Hitter of the Year Carlos Pena (Peninsula Pilots/Indiana State), Starting Pitcher of the Year Drew Harrison (Boone Bigfoots/Pearl River CC), and Reliever of the Year Casey O’Dell (Wilson/Florida Southern). In total, 36 honorees were selected as CPL All-Stars earlier this summer.
Two of the players recognized were also drafted in the 2025 Major League Draft back in July. Morehead City’s Danny Thompson (UNC Greensboro) and Martinsville’s Hayden Friese (Western Carolina), both members of the All-CPL Second Team, went in the eighth round to Toronto and the 20th round to Atlanta respectively. Both signed soon after and began their professional careers with Single-A Dunedin and Augusta. Several others went on to sign professional contracts with independent leagues, including the Pilots Kyle Edwards (Old Dominion) and Pena, as well as Wilson’s Chase Waddell (Barton College), who all signed with Washington, Windy City and Evansville respectively of the Frontier League.
Peninsula led the way with 11 total selections, which marks the the third straight year the club has done so. The Wilson Tobs, winners of the 2025 CPL Petitt Cup Championship, followed next with eight players. From there, it was Boone with seven, Forest City with five, and Lexington County and Morehead City each with four. Six teams – Asheboro, Holly Springs, Macon, Martinsville, Tri-City, and Wilmington – earned three selections apiece. Finally, Florence, Greenville, and HPThomasville each had one representative to close things out.
