HOLLY SPRINGS, NC – With Spring Training in full swing, the Coastal Plain League is proud to acknowledge that it is well represented across 2025 rosters as 88 alums are participating. The 88 alums ties the league record for most alums in Spring Training and marks the second straight year as many have participated.
This year, all 30 Major League teams feature at least one CPL alum in their spring camp. American League clubs combined for 49 players while the other 39 alums are spread across the National League. Leading the way were the San Francisco Giants with seven players: Justin Verlander, Patrick Bailey, Joey Lucchesi, Logan Porter, Lou Trivino, Brett Wisely, and Carson Whisenhunt. Three teams — the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners and the Athletics – were next with five apiece; while five other clubs – Chicago (AL), Kansas City, Miami, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, and Toronto – followed with four CPL alums each.
All but two of the CPL’s current 15 clubs and another five former CPL teams were represented. The High Point-Thomasville HiToms led the way with 12 alums, followed by Peninsula with nine and Wilmington with eight. Holly Springs and former clubs Edenton and Savannah all tallied seven alums. Morehead City and Wilson were next with six each, while Florence, Macon, and Fayetteville each had five. Lexington County (including their days in Columbia) and Forest City both tallied four. Former team Gastonia featured three players, while Asheboro and Martinsville each had a pair. Rounding things out with one alum each were Tri-City, and Petersburg.
