HOLLY SPRINGS – The Coastal Plain League announced today that Alex Christie of the Tri-City Chili Peppers and Wilmington Sharks reliever Jordan Zuger were tabbed the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the second week (June 2 – June 8) of the 2024 CPL season. CPL Players of the Week are brought to you by Trackman Baseball, providing players and coaches next-generation analytical data all season long.
A senior utility player from Hanover College, Christie led the league with a .667 average and 10 hits on the week. He also had the best slugging percentage (1.333), on-base percentage (.737) and OPS (2.070) across the league. Of his 10 hits, two were for doubles, two for home runs and another for a triple. He finished the week with six runs scored, seven RBIs, was hit twice, walked twice and stole two bags.
On the bump, Zuger didn’t earn a decision, but was quite reliable for Wilmington. The 6-2, 215-pound righty from Belmont made three appearances, including one start, and threw a total of seven innings. In that time, he surrendered just two hits and walked a pair while not giving up a run and striking out a league-high 10 on the week. To go along with his perfect 0.00 ERA, Zuger also held opposing batters to a mere .091 average, while sporting a 0.57 WHIP and K/9 of 12.857.
