The Coastal Plain League announced today the coaches for the 2022 All-Star Game to be held in Holly Springs, N.C., at Dick Sears Field at Ting Stadium on Sunday, July 10 at 5:40 p.m. This marks the 22nd year the CPL has played an All-Star Game and the first since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The West CPL All-Stars will be the visiting team, while the East CPL All-Stars will be the home squad in the 2022 summer classic.
In the West Division, Savannah’s Tyler Gillum will be the head coach, while High Point-Thomasville’s DJ Russ will serve as his assistant. Under Gillum, the Bananas clinched the West Division First Half title with a league-best 19-5 record. Meanwhile, Russ’ HiToms sported the second-best record (12-12) in the West during the first half.
For the East Division, Morehead City’s Sam Carel will be the skipper, and will be assisted by Wilson’s Harry Markotay and Holly Springs’ Brian Rountree. Carel guided his team to a 14-1 clip in their final 15 games of the first half on their way to a 18-6 record at the midway point and the East Division First Half crown. Markotay’s Tobs were neck-and-neck with the Marlins down the stretch, finishing with a 16-8 mark, while the Salamanders were 14-10 under Rountree’s leadership.
