The Coastal Plain League has announced a league-wide initiative to help serve healthcare providers with their growing need of face masks during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our fans and communities have always been dear to us; and our teams have been working to stay engaged with them through this difficult time,” said CPL Commissioner Justin Sellers. “Right now, the healthcare profession is our first line of defense. We feel that this initiative is a great way for our teams and fans to get involved together and help our local healthcare providers in their time of need.”
Due to the rapidly rising number of Covid-19 cases across the country, healthcare providers are faced with a severe shortage of surgical masks and N95 respirators, putting themselves and their patients at risk. Furthermore, locations such as assisted living facilities in particular are struggling to find ways to protect their very much at-risk residents without access to face masks each day. Such shortages have caused these institutions to call on the public to help in sewing face masks to be used by their staff and patients as necessary.
Through talking with a number of institutions in the area, the league has identified health care providers ranging from clinics and hospitals to assisted living centers across its footprint that are in desperate need of face masks. A list of these institutions can be found at the bottom of this article.
The league and its 15 member franchises are asking any and all fans who are capable and willing to sew masks based on the attached specifications (see below.)
The CDC has created a webpage that has more information on what types of materials are safe to use and how to make masks of which can be viewed here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html
Fans can also garner more insight on how to make proper face masks via PDF printout directions here and here, as well as by watching the below video.
Below is a list of the institutions in need of face masks in this region. Those who are not adequate sewers can also help the cause by donating sewing supplies to local organizations in their communities that may be producing masks themselves.
