The Coastal Plain League has announced that Eric Miles of the Morehead City Marlins has been named the 2019 CPL Pitcher of the Year. This was Miles first season with the Marlins and his first in the CPL.

Miles, a 6-2, 205-pound junior from Presbyterian College finished the season with a 6-0 record to go along with a 2.06 ERA across six starts (10 total appearances) and 48 innings pitched as the ace of the eventual 2019 CPL Champion Marlins. His control was on display all season as the right-hander managed 58 strikeouts while walking only five batters and allowing 31 hits for a 0.75 WHIP and 10.88 K/9. He led the league in wins with six and was fifth overall in strikeouts with 58 on the season.

His performance earned him a spot on the East All-Star Division team in which he earned the save, striking out one in the teams 2-1 game one win over the North All-Stars. The East would ultimately go on to win the three-inning game six-team tournament, earning Miles and his teammates the title of 2019 CPL All-Star Showdown champions. While the full teams will be announced on Wednesday, his efforts also earned him a First-Team All-CPL selection. All player awards are selected after gathering feedback from coaches as well as team and league officials.

Miles will return to Presbyterian for his upcoming senior season hoping to build on an impressive 2019 spring with the Blue Hose in which he finished as the team’s innings leader with 93 pitched on the season, pairing with a 3.97 ERA across 15 starts.
