Former Edenton Steamer, David Bednar, made his Major League debut September 1 for the San Diego Padres. Bednar entered in relief in the ninth inning, pitching one scoreless inning and allowing no hits or walks in the Padres 8-4 win over the San Francisco Giants.

Bednar was drafted in the 35th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Padres out Lafayette College. The right-hander spent the last four seasons in the minor leagues before his callup, accumulating a career 2.70 ERA with 303 strikeouts over 219 2/3 innings pitched. He had 14 saves and 86 strikeouts in his 58 innings pitched at AA this season at the time of his promotion.

Bednar played during the 2015 summer for the Steamers, holding a 2.89 ERA 76 strikeouts across 53 innings pitched to earn both All-Star and All-CPL honors. He marks the 129th all-time former CPL player to make their major league debut and the 18th all-time for the Steamers franchise.
