Former Edenton Steamer, Josh Fuentes, made his Major League debut April 6 for the Colorado Rockies. Fuentes entered as a pinch hitter in the eigth inning of the Rockies 7-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, getting his first MLB hit with a single before coming around the score later in the inning.

Fuentes went undrafted out of NAIA Missouri Baptist in 2014 but was signed as a free agent by the Rockies follwoing the draft. It didn’t take long for him to start proving he was vastly overlooked as he went on to dominate Minor League pitching at multiple levels. In total he has notced a .300 career batting average with 129 doubles, 50 home runs and 292 RBIs across six seasons in the Rockies minor legue organization – includng a Pacific Coast League MVP award during his time at the AAA level in 2018. All of which led to him earning a spot on the 40-man and ultimately a call up to conclude his unique journey to the Major Leagues.

Before getting signed by the Rockies in 2014, Fuentes made a brief stop with the Steamers that summer putting up a .333 average over three games played to go alon with two doubles and two RBIs. Fuentes marks the second former CPL player to make their major league debut in 2019, and the 119th all-time. His debut also pushes Edenton’s major league alumni total to 13 all-time.
