Former Forest City Owl, Tyler Zuber made his Major League debut July 24 on Opening Day for the Kansas City Royals. Zuber entered in relief in the seventh inning, facing the minimum and allowing no hits or runs in his two innings of work in the Royals 2-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians.
Zuber was drafted in the 6th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Royals out Arkansas State University. The right-hander quickly asserted himself at the minor league level holding a 2.96 ERA with 177 strikeouts in 133 2/3 inning pitched across single and double A level. He spent the off-season in the Dominican Winter League where he continued to turn heads on his way to a 3-0 record to go along with a 1.20 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 15 innings pitched. All of which earned him an invite to the Royals summer camp in which he eventually turned into an Opening Day roster spot.
Zuber was one of the best pitchers in the CPL in 2014 for the Owls, holding a 2.56 ERA with 43 strikeouts over 38 2/3 innings pitched. His debut marks the 131st all-time former CPL player to make their major league debut and the first of the 2020 MLB season. The Owls now have six major league alumni.
