The Coastal Plain League announced today that Kendall McGowan of Forest City was named Hitter of the Week, while Austin Temple of Savannah earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week of the CPL regular season (June 9 – June 15.) CPL Players of the Week are brought to you by Trackman Baseball, providing players and coaches next-generation analytical data all season long.
Returning for a second season with the Owls, McGowan was a force across the board in week two. In four games and 16 at-bats, the sophomore outfielder from Appalachian State notched nine hits for a .563 batting average with one double and two home runs to go along with eight RBIs for a 1.000 slugging percentage. He showed more than power however, also drawing two walks to push his on-base percentage to .611 – helping him score three runs and steal four bases.
On the mound, Temple made two appearances in week two of the season, not allowing an earned run over nine innings pitched. The sophomore from Jacksonville made his first appearance on June 9 throwing a dominant three shut-out innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out six. He went on to have an even more impressive start on on June 15 at Lexington County where he earned the win after carrying a perfect game into the sixth inning before ultimately giving up his first and only hit of the night. In total, the right-hander allowed only two hits and one walk across all nine innings pitched on the week while striking out 11 for a .069 opponent’s batting average and 0.33 WHIP.
