HOLLY SPRINGS – The Coastal Plain League announced today that Boone outfielder Nadir Lewis and Forest City pitcher JJ Garcia were named the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the second week (June 5 – June 11) of the 2023 CPL season. Lewis, a junior from Princeton, finished the week with a .588 average, five runs scored and a league-best nine RBIs. Of his 10 hits, two were doubles and another pair, home runs. He walked once and stole a base. Lewis also sported an impressive 1.670 OPS after slugging 1.059 and recording an on-base percentage of .611. On the season, the left-handed hitter is slashing .429/.529/.929 for the Bigfoots with eight runs scored and 14 RBIs.
On the bump, Garcia made one start, earning the win without surrendering a single run to end the week with an unblemished 0.00 ERA. The 6-6, 200-pound right-hander pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up just two hits and a walk, while striking out nine for the Owls. A freshman at Tennessee, Garcia also held opposing batters to a mere .091 average against him, while sporting a 0.45 WHIP and a K/9 of 12.150. Overall, he is 1-0 with a respectable 2.53 ERA through 10 2/3 innings of work. He’s given up five hits and walked a pair while striking out 12 in that time.
