DURHAM, NC – The Coastal Plain League (CPL) recognized six recent TrackMan CPL Players of the Week today, highlighted by Macon’s Levi Ham and Kai Decker, who took home the honors for this past week, Week 7 of action.
Helping the Bacon to three wins last week, including ones against the top two teams in the West, Forest City and Lexington County, Ham (Point Loma Nazarene) put together a stellar week offensively, hitting .600 with nine hits in 15 at-bats, including four doubles, six runs scored, and seven RBIs over four games. He posted a .611 on-base percentage and an impressive 1.478 OPS, serving as a consistent run producer in the lineup. On the mound, Decker (Mercer) was lights out in relief this past week, tossing eight shutout innings while giving up just a pair of hits and two walks. The 6-1, 205-pound lefty struck out nine batters, held opponents to a .074 batting average, and posted a 0.50 WHIP with a 10.13 K/9.
The week prior, Week 6, Peninsula’s Carlos Pena (Indiana State) had a monster outing at the plate, batting .556 with five hits in nine at-bats, including a pair of home runs and two doubles. He drove in six runs, scored five times, stole two bags, and finished with a staggering 2.044 OPS over three games (shortened due to the All-Star break). This was Pena’s second HOTW award on the season, having been selected after Week One as well. On the bump, Leo Giannoni (Florida Gulf Coast) was nearly untouchable in two relief appearances this week, tossing four hitless, scoreless innings with just one walk and seven strikeouts. The 6-2, 200-pound right-hander held opponents to a .000 batting average and posted a dominant 0.25 WHIP and 15.75 K/9.
Finally, Week 5 saw Macon’s Carter McCulley (Florida State) named Hitter of the Week after an outstanding week at the plate, batting .533 over 15 at-bats with eight hits, seven runs scored, and three RBIs across four games. He also drew four walks, stole a base, and reached base at a .682 clip, finishing the week with a 1.282 OPS. Meanwhile, Wilson’s Nathan Leininger (Toledo) delivered a dominant performance in his lone start of the week, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and no walks. A 6-5, 220-pound righty, he struck out seven batters and held opponents to a .154 batting average, posting an impressive 15.75 K/9 and a 0.50 WHIP.
