The Coastal Plain League announced today that Kendall McGowan of Forest City was named Hitter of the Week, while Ben Anderson of Edenton earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the final week of the CPL regular season (July 29 – August 4.)

McGowan, a rising sophomore at Appalachian State, ended the regular season on a tear, batting .571 across seven games and 21 at-bats for the Steamers. The All-Star finished with a more than impressive six doubles on the week to go along with five RBIs, two walks and three stolen bases for a .609 on-base percentag and .857 slugging. His work at the plate was good enough to help him finish the season with the second highest batting average in the league at .392 while also leading the league in doubles with 20.

On the mound, Anderson did not earn the decision in his outing on August 3 versus the Wilmington Sharks, but that was one of the few things that didn’t go his way. The rising-junior at Binghamton didn’t allow a run in his seven innings of work, giving up only three hits while striking out a staggering 14 batters and walking none for a 0.43 WHIP and 18.0 K/9. It capped off an impressive 2018 campaign as Anderson finished the season with a 0.91 ERA and 59 strikeouts while walking only 12 across 39 2/3 innings pitched.
