The Coastal Plain League announced today that Myles Christian of High Point-Thomasville was named Hitter of the Week, while Kenny Wells of Morehead City earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week of CPL action (June 3 – June 9.)
It took him a few days to heat up, but once he did there was no stopping Christian’s bat in week two as the Middle Tennessee State fresman bashed his way to hitter of the week with five home runs on the week. In addition to his homers, Christian notched a .500 batting average with 9 total hits in 18 at-bats, including a double and 11 RBIs for a 1.386 slugging percentage. Christian also scored six runs for the HiToms while drawing three walks to push his on-base percentage to .571 for the week.
On the mound, Wells was about as dominant as a closer can be for the Marlins in week two shutting out both opponents he faced to earn the save in each of his two appearances. Included in that was a bottom of the 10th outing versus the Holly Springs Salamanders on June 3 in which he entered the game with two runners already on base and got the save. In total, he finished the week with two innings pithced while not allowing a hit or walking a batter and striking out three for a 13.6 K/9 and perfect 0.00 WHIP.
