The Coastal Plain League announced today that Konner Piotto of Fayetteville was named Hitter of the Week, while Walker Cleveland of Edenton earned Pitcher of the Week honors for week seven of the CPL regular season (July 14 – July 20.) CPL Players of the Week are brought to you by Trackman Baseball, providing players and coaches next-generation analytical data all season long.
Piotto, a junior at Wright State, held the highest batting average of all nominees this week at .565 across five games and 23 at-bats for the SwampDogs. The catcher notched 13 total hits including six doubles to drive in five runs and score seven of his own for a .542 on-base percentage and .826 slugging. He struck out only twice and was a perfect three-for-three stealing bases to continue an impressive season in which he holds a .349 batting average across 26 games played this summer.
On the mound, Cleveland was dominant for the Steamers on July 17, tossing a complete-game shutout in the second game of a double header versus the Wilmington Sharks to earn the win. He allowed only four hits while striking out five and walking none across his seven innings of work for a 0.57 WHIP. The left-handed freshman from Michigan was a late arrival due to the Wolverines run to the College World Series Final but has quickly shown his worth, totaling a 2.61 ERA across 10 1/3 innings pitched.
