The Coastal Plain League announced today that Paul Salata of Forest City was named Hitter of the Week, while Ian Fitzgerald of Edenton earned Pitcher of the Week honors for week five of the CPL regular season (June 30 – July 6.) CPL Players of the Week are brought to you by Trackman Baseball, providing players and coaches next-generation analytical data all season long.
A red-shirt junior from Barry, Salata caught fire on the final week before the All-Star break for the Owls, hitting .500 across five games on the week. In total he notched nine hits while driving in nine with one double and four home runs. He also scored seven runs and drew three walks to help him to a .550 on-base percentage and 1.222 slugging percentage on the week.
On the mound, Fitzgerald was near un-hittable in his start versus the Peninsula Pilots at home on June 5 to earn the win. The Embry-Riddle sophomore went five scoreless, allowing his first and only hit in the fourth inning of play. His control was on display all night as he walked only one and stuckout five for a 0.40 WHIP and tossed 52 of 75 pitches for strikes on the night.
